Ropes On Board

(Every Day Matters Challenge #196 Ropes)
On a whale watch in Eastport Maine
I spent time taking photos of the
different ropes and there were
plenty of them. Only when doing
this EDM challenge did I notice the color red
on the rope and think it must
be some sort of measuring mark.
Some ropes had black instead of red. A
sailor out there, might know the
reasons. As the Moleskine sketch
book gets fuller, it becomes harder to lay it flat
for a photo, so my hand will be in the
journal photos from now on, maybe.

Hi, I love your style, the line work, the colors! May I ask? , What sketch book you use and are most your pics done in watercolor? Thanks, Laurie

I use Faber Castile watercolor pencils mostly and Moleskine sketch books--I like the small one best (pocketsize 3 1/2 by 5/12)---I can't imagine using anything else. In the past, I have experimented with other kinds, but when you find "the" one, you feel it in your bones...this is the 'right stuff' for me. WinnaJill

I'm envious of your whale watch! Did you see any whales? Your painting is beautiful, as always!

Since the Capt doesn't say, "I see your doing some sketching--come aboard free....."--it's costly to go on a Whale Watch----I had been on one out of West Hyannisport (with no Kennedy's on board) and saw several whales put on a really good show and we were close enough to hear the breath being expelled---so not seeing any on this down east one was not so bad---seeing a few eagles nested way high and almost freezing to death it was so cold were good enough with all the photos I took to boot. It was a three masted red sailed schooner, I think it's called and memorable for many things, including a really good loking Captain. WinnaJill
